Discover a world of limitless creativity at Current Threads 2024, a multi-media surface design art show presented by the Surface Design Association BC + Yukon at the Pat Martin Bates Gallery on Store Street in Victoria, B.C., from 9 to 28 March 2024.

Experience a fascinating collection of fiber and textile art, showcasing diverse techniques and materials from wall hangings to sculptural pieces. 

Visit the gallery Tuesday to Sunday, from noon to 5 pm, and mark your calendar for the reception and artist talks on the 23rd of March from 3 pm to 5 pm. Spread the word and invite others for a celebration of exceptional artistry.

Surface Design Association’s mission since 1977 is to promote awareness and appreciation of textile-inspired art and design through member-supported benefits including publications, exhibitions, and conferences.

In conjunction with Current Threads, Francine McCabe will read from her book, Fleece & Fibre, followed by a hands-on exploration of the various materials she discusses in her research.

Francine McCabe is a mixed-blood Anishinaabe author, fibre artist, and Vancouver Island Fibreshed advocate. Her first book, Fleece and Fibre: Textile Producers of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands explores the world of small-scale textile farms along the Salish Sea and their pivotal role in the sustainable, artisanal textile production and slow fashion movement. Her writing has appeared in Portal Magazine, CV Collective, and FOLKLIFE.
