Each year the VAC recognizes International Women’s Day with dedicated professional programming. In 2025 we will be partnering with Vancouver Island School of Art to produce an exhibition throughout March in the Slide Room Gallery.
VAC x VISA IWD 2025 will be curated by Rita Bunrayong
Rita Bunrayong is a multidisciplinary creator and emerging art curator, known for her thoughtful and innovative approach to curating exhibitions. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and Visual Studies from the University of Victoria, she has curated projects that explore themes of absence, identity, and the intersections of public and private spaces. Her curatorial work includes notable exhibitions like Nothing to See Hear, which examined concepts of nothingness, and Bedroom, an exploration of personal space and human psychology.
Rita’s curatorial practice is informed by her passion for highlighting underrepresented voices, including diverse global and Indigenous perspectives. As a member of the Southeast Asian diaspora, LGBTQIA+ community, and a person with disabilities, she brings a unique lens to her work, aiming to decolonize traditional frameworks and create space for marginalized narratives.
For the upcoming exhibition in March, celebrating International Women’s Day, Rita is looking to feature a range of artistic expressions centered around the power and resilience of women.
This is a paid opportunity where all contributing artists will receive an artist fee.
If you are interested in proposing work to be included in this exhibition, or informing Rita of your artistic practice, please email arts@vicartscouncil.ca with the subject line IWD 2025 and we will be in touch.
Deadline to send us your proposal will be 10 February 2025.
