About the Artist and Work:
Artist and writer Julie Emerson creates series of paintings in watercolour and in oil paints. The Edible Alphabet is 25 watercolours of food, inspired by her neighborhood in Victoria. Artful Rooms, a series of oil paintings, are imaginary comfy rooms with nine essential elements, with famous artwork. Ukraine Spring – Standing Strong in 2022 has 44 watercolour paintings and texts about the people and culture of Ukraine after the invasion; all proceeds are donated. These collections are available to buy as Artist Books, which she designed and created. Her large paintings include the series Sex and Death and Landscape as well as Women and Wings.
Books of Julie Emerson’s poetry available on her website include Tarot Haiku, with the original Tarot illustrations by Pamela Colman Smith, and Arboretum with photographs by David Beaver. Some of her books now out of print include A Hundred Days – an illustrated botanical novel and Twenty-Seven Stings, poetry about 2000 years of war, and the nonfiction The Herons of Stanley Park.
