Kindred Spirits is a national touring exhibition honouring Lucy Maud Montgomery, creator of Anne of Green Gables, on the 150th anniversary of Montgomery’s birth.
The exhibit consists of 37 unique, juried bookbinding and book art pieces created by members of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG), including five pieces are by local artists, two of whom received two exhibition awards: Best in Show and Best Capture of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Essence.
Mary Conley, spokesperson for the local chapter of CBBAG and a contributing artist in the show, says, “This is an exciting opportunity to see handmade books ranging from leather bound to wonderful pop-ups which celebrate Montgomery as a person and her broader literary legacy, moving beyond ‘Anne of Green Gables.’
Victoria is the final stop on a national tour of 10 locations, which began in 2024.
“It’s important for the Victoria Arts Council to recognize local artists in a context beyond our Island. At the same time, we are excited to host this concluding presentation of Kindred Spirits and to bring art works from across Canada here to Victoria.” states Kegan McFadden, Executive Director of Victoria Arts Council.
The show is presented by the Victoria Arts Council, and will be displayed at their Project Space at 670 Fort Street during (Wednesday – Sunday, 12PM – 5PM, admission by donation.)
