Artist Statement:
Born and raised in Victoria my early artistic endeavours were mostly in crafts and drawing. My artwork is comprised mainly of abstract digital creations, with hand drawn illustrations, collage and text-based works rounding out the scope of my practice. Influences on my artistic self come from various interests/experiences such as nature, design, architecture, and interiors.
Stemming from a background in the aesthetic and communicative field of graphic design and as well interior design, my abstract work uses computer processing to transform photographs and found images. As I manipulate these pictures in photoshop via filters, algorithms and other digital techniques, there is an unknown transition which occurs that I have no control over. This lack of control combined with deliberate input, similar to that of a paint brush, results in images of vibrant colours, forms colliding and merging in an almost natural composition.
With my art, the visual interpretation or the story, the viewer experience, is of special interest to me. This perception of abstract art, everything we see for the first time, is an enjoyable ongoing project of analysis. I am captivated by the imagery that reveals itself in the mind of the spectator. Every work of art tells a story.
My line studies are created by the digital “path tracing” of an image producing outlines of forms within an image. There are numerous variables such as, colour, width, style etc. that can be manipulated and applied to these lines. Line layers can be duplicated and by adding effects such as flip, blur, transparency, blending, masking etc., endless possibilities arise from this fascinating technique.
