About the Collective:
Meltshot Brownie was founded by Judy eight years ago as they saw a need for emerging BIPOC artists. Judy was continuously rejected and found out quickly the art world was not inclusive. As a response to this exclusion, they created this collective to support disabled, non-binary, intergenerational, and multiracial and youth artists. Meltshot Brownie started growing and we had to take a pause as a result of covid. Then we started again last year with over ten multidisciplinary artists. The collective is accessible as Judy takes care of the admin, curation and art call outs for the artists. There are no barriers; there’s no paperwork, no fees for membership, fluidity for members to come in an out the collective, shared upcycled materials and lots of unconditional support from the community.
Our artistic practices are deeply rooted in our histories, contemporary issues, collaborations and reimagining racialized spaces. We invite audiences to engage with our art as a space for reflection and connection. By sharing our art and stories we aim to bridge cultural divides and inspire a greater understanding of our complex identities. We are writers, poets, singers, drag kings, muralists, graffiti artists, rappers, mentors, stylists, movie producers and visual artists.
At Meltshot Brownie, we are an art and performance collective dedicated to representation, resilience, equity and celebrating our diverse narratives. Our work as a collective and as individuals continues to share our rich cultural histories legacies in our communities. The work emerges from our intersections of identity, shared lived experiences and collective spirit. We continue to challenge the dominant narratives and seek to uplift each other.
Thank you for joining our journey of creativity and expression.
XOXO Meltshot Brownie
