This month, award-winning artist Crystal Pryzybille will be speaking about her sculpture practice in relation to the theme of monumental.

About her practice, Crystal says:

“Through my research for the creation of several different commemorative public artworks over the last 12 years (including The Father Pandosy Mission 150th Anniversary Commemorative Sculpture, 2012, The Hands of Time, 2013, and The Chief Swkncut Monument, 2019), I’ve gained an awareness of how public art serves to construct, shape or deconstruct society’s assumptions and narratives. This growing awareness has led me to reconsider approaches to the creation of public art. I am interested in creating works that speak to a wide audience, and which help cultivate new considerations for personal and public consciousness. My research has led me to participate in dialogical, Indigenous-led, art initiatives, which have helped inform my approach.” – CP
