Artist Statement:

‘A Moment in Time’ is a selection of work representing urban scenes in and about the Victoria area with people going about their day to day lives. Most of the locations are within walking distance of my home. Water and sky are major elements. Sometimes I see something different and interesting that I can represent in a composition to tell a story and/or suggest something is about to happen. I paint what I see with acrylic and oil on canvas and produce representational art and realism-like art. Compositions are derived from sketches, memories, photographs and imagination.

Donald Rowe is a self taught painter and has been a Victoria resident since 2009. He is a native of Atlantic Canada and has lived, travelled and worked throughout Canada. He studied art for 4 years in high school and continued his development with courses in drawing, painting, perspective and art history at various private and public institutions. In the early 90’s, he was a member of an artist’s co-op and gallery in Halifax NS and sold his art through the gallery including commissioned work.

Since retiring as a professional engineer, he has devoted more time to painting and taking drawing and painting courses at VISA (Vancouver Island School of Art) and VCA (Victoria College of Art). He has exhibited in the juried Sidney Fine Art Show and the juried Sooke Fine Arts Show. He is member of the Victoria Arts Council and has participated as a volunteer and exhibitor.
